Medieval walls

During the Middle Ages, Peralada had two walls. The first enclosed area was built between the 10th 11th century, and today there remain few vestiges of this construction: a section on the street ‘Sota Muralla’, where you can see a square tower; another, on the street ‘Costa de les Monges’, where the entrance to the old Castle was located, and the last, in Plaça de Sant Domènec square.

After the fire of 1285, the new wall was built, and this is still visible in several places around the town; particularly outstanding is the circular tower situated in the grounds of the Convent del Carme.
