The jewish quarter

Like almost all the major cities of the ancient counties of Empúries, Girona, and Besalú, Peralada also had a Jewish quarter, right next to the Convent del Carme, to which it was connected and which it depended on. The “call” as it was known, still gives its name to the street that borders the Convent del Carmen on the inside of the wall. On an 18th-century map of Peralada, you can see a public space that possibly corresponded to the main square of the Jewish quarter where the synagogue may have been located.
