Every year at Christmas the people of Peralada take part in a representation of different scenes in the life Jesus Christ, all within the grounds of Peralada's majestic castle.
This 'Pessebre Vivent' is particularly noted for its demonstration of traditional trades, such as basket weaving, embroidery, spinning, and carving. The stone mason, the blacksmith, the baker and the celebrated Catalan figure 'la castanyera' or chestnut vendor are also represented amongst others.
